Travel information

This year, we are looking forward to bringing Yorkshire Balloon Fiesta to the beautiful setting of Castle Howard. Castle Howard is located in a rural setting, 10-miles east of York & 7-miles west of Malton.

Location

The local area will be sign posted for attendees of Yorkshire Balloon Fiesta. Please follow directions to YO60 7DA and then follow all diversion signs to the event car park.

The road accessing the area from the northeast and northwest is the A170. The main road, servicing the area (from east and west) is the A64.

During the August Bank Holiday, traffic will be at its summer maximum. Disruption will develop from 9am for the eastbound A64, easing around Noon. The westbound A64 starts to slow down around 3:30pm. These queues will start to reduce around 6:30pm.

Our advice

If you plan to get to Castle Howard in the morning (via the A64), please ensure you arrive as early as possible. If you are planning to arrive later in the morning, please try to avoid the A64 and follow alternative routes on the back roads in the surrounding areas.

There is FREE car parking on-site so you won’t need to stop and pay. This will help you to get into the event efficiently.

Anyone wanting to leave mid-afternoon should try to avoid the A64 and follow alternative routes on the back roads. Live entertainment is non-stop and we will have plenty of things to see and do on-site to ensure you have a great time.

The event is due to finish at 10pm each day. Our staff will be on hand to ensure everyone leaves safely and efficiently.

Drop-off

At the car park, there is a drop-off point for taxi’s and mini-buses. If you are attending in a group, we may recommend booking a mini bus or taxi to help decrease the volume of cars on the roads.

Please ensure you make your travel arrangements in advance to avoid getting delayed during the August Bank Holiday Weekend.
